For optimum efficiency in terms of production and quality, there are many settings to be attended on ring frame. Setting a spindle in centre of the respective ring is also a bery crucial. The conventional method used in most of the mills till now is cumbersome and inaccurate. The reason is, it solely depemds on visual judgement of the operator, which is affected by fatigue. Thus a lot of variation occurs in spindle gauging, ultimately affecting yarn quality.
SPINDLE CENTERING DEVICE is introduced for accurate centering of spindle on ring frames. A very fine accuracy of 0.1 mm can be achieved with the use of this device. Obviously, it will reduce yarn breakages and imrove yarn quality.

The unit is designed to operate on a 12V rechargable maintenanace free battery. The battery charger is a integral part of the measuring unit. For charging battery, one has only to plug in three pin socket in any of the 220 VAC, 5 Amp supply. The whole unit is mounted on a trolley so that it can be easily moved in the department.
For accurate centering a sensor probe along with a toolroom made spindle sleeve is used Each probe and sleeve is tailor made as per the samples supplied by the client. Each probe is supplied with a master centre for perfect caliberation of measuring unit. This is called a set. We have a fixed spindle, fixed ring type ring frame.
Will the Spindle- Centering Device be of any use to us
The ring frame is fixed spindle, fixed ring type. That necessarily means that
no adjustments are possible, once the initial setting is done. However, does
it mean that' no adjustments are required ? With the help of Spindle
Centering Device, it is possible to monitor the gauging at intervals. Necessary steps may be taken at proper time.
One more thing. If you have a reliable means to ensure correct cent ring at
the time of installation and commissioning of such ring frame, you will be
definitely benefited, as you will get more accurate setting. Some mills have
bought the Spindle Centering Device, only to facilitate precise erection of
the ring frame.
After gauging the ring - spindle pair with Spindle Centering Device, if

time. The device is very sensitive, as it has to stand to a good level of
accuracy. But once he gets, proper judgment of the direction in which the
spindle I ring has to be moved, to get the expected change in the meter

Can we increase the speed of the ring frame, after gauging with
electronic Spindle Centering Device ?
Although it is at the sole discretion of the Spinning Manager, as to what
speed, the ring frame should be run. we have observed that to take
advantage of reduced end breakages; many times the spindle speed is
increased to the extent of 5 %.

Yes. very much. By using the ring data information, the problematic spindle
can be specifically attended using Spindle Centering Device, to eliminate
any contribution due to disturbed gauging.

There are two digital meters provided on front panel to display deviation of spindle from centre of ring in "X" and "Y" direction respectively The meters have one yellow LED along with two illuminated green arrows. The meters can display reading from .0 to 1.9 only. If deviation exceeds the upper limit of 1.9 then only 1 will be shown. At the same time yellow LED will light up to indicate overflow The arrow illumination will indicate the direction in which the ring to be moved to bring the same in centre.
A three position rotary switch is provided for selection of three different operations. At centre position of switch, the unit is switched OFF
At left hand position, the unit will be switched ON
And at right jand position of the switch, battery can be charged, when connected to 220 V Ac supply
There are three LEDS to indicate the status of unit and battery. The RED LED will glow if the battery is charged to the required lavel. When unit is kept for charging YELLOW LED glows to indicate that the vattery is totally discharged, none of the LED's will glow even when switch is ON
Two potentiometers are provided for initial zero setting of 'X' and 'Y' axis. Using master centre with the sensing probe one has to turn the potentiometers with the help of small screw driver to set 0 reading on both digital meters
Inset the male connector of the probe in this socket and secure lightly by screwing in.
Is electronic Spindle Centring expensive and time consuming ?
Yes. of course it is if you ignore the benefits you get over the conventional method
of spindle centering.
The conventional method using fiber bush is observed to take about 3 to 4 hours for
a ring frame with 476 spindles. The same ring frame, if gauged using a Electronic
Spindle Centering Device takes 6 to 8 hours. Let us try to analyse, why and if at all,
to what advantage?
After centering, it is also possible to carry aut a few checks on spindle and ring-rail.
Rotating the spindle manually, and keeping it in different positions, the eccentric
movement or a bent spindle can be found out. Moving the ring-rail up and down. the
rail pray can be detected. This way, 80 % of the CMRS results can be achived. The .
ATIRA advocated CMRS method is known to need 40 hours of meticulous working.
The sensing probe of the Spindle Centering Device, is fabricated with very good
mechanical accuracy. This probe has to be put on each ring individually, in the procedure of gaguing. Thererore. dimensional accurancy's in the ring diameter or ovality
of ring can be immediately spotted. (e.g. rings of 42 mm ~ and 1 & 5/8 " are many
times mixed. which may go unnoticed.)
Unfortunatly Spindle Centering Device has no capacity to correct the defects detected by it. However it does prove to be an important aid for one who wants to set
right the flaws. And once you attend to them, it may not be necessary to gauge ring
frames more frequently. Psychologically, one does not like to notice such defects.
But if this mental barrier is overcome, the benefits of using electronic Spindle
Centering Device will be appreciable.
The accurancy achieved with electronic Spindle Centering Device is of the order of
thousandth part of an inch. This can never be guaranteed in conventional method.
With this kind of accuracy, it is needless to say. the end breakages will reduce sub-
stantially. Not only that, the spindle speed may be increased by 2 to 3 %.
Another advantage of electronic Spindle Centering Device is that it may be carried
out in stationary c.ondition (i.e. without running the ring frame), thus saving power
costs. However, it is also possible to gauge or check in running condition. So, if a
Ring Data Acquistion system is installed; only the particular ring - spindle pair recording more breakages, may be gauged, while the production is undistrubed.
if you club together advantages like less end breakages, increased speed and prolonged gauging schedules, the pay-back period of electronic Spindle Centering Device can be about 3 months, depending an the material and count variations.
